What does free English tutoring mean?
If you are accepted as part of our program, OT will provide you with free 1-on-1 online English tutoring per week. You will be assigned between 2 and 4 tutors who will each be responsible to give you one lesson per week. We tailor the lessons to your goals to make sure you learn what you need to learn.
What do I get out of it?

Before you begin your lessons with us, we will organize a call to determine your level as well as your aspirations and desires. Some of our students are aiming to pass the TOEFL while some others are simply interested in developing their conversational skills. OT makes sure that what you are learning is what you wish to be learning.
In-depth learning
Opportutoring is committed to providing our students with high quality teaching over a long period of time. Learning a new language is a lengthy process and OT understands that. As such, we do not have a time limit on our program, we stop when you wish to stop. During the course of our program, you will be paired with the same several tutors every week so that you get a sense of continuity and the ability form a relationship of trust.
Exam preparation
OT's network includes over hundreds of volunteers spread out around the world. Within each chapter are organized events and socials to foster community building. If you're interested in joining an inclusive society of like minded people, look no further.

Most frequent questions and answers
Our students typically receive 4 hours of tutoring per week. This corresponds to one hour per tutor assigned to them. Depending on the specific needs of our students it can sometimes be more or less. Those 4 hours correspond to the 1-on-1 lessons live with tutors but students may spend more time working on our resources such as homework prepared by tutors or our online learning platform GlobalEnglish.
In order to follow the lessons with our tutors, students must have a reliable internet connection and ideally a computer. Some of our students have been able to follow lessons on their phone but have not been able to make the most of all the program. In any case, this is not a disqualifying factor, students who are unsure whether their material is sufficient should still reach out to us and we can work out a solution.
The OT program does not have a specific duration. We accompany students for as long as they need according to their English goals. Some of our students wish to pass English tests such as the IELTS or TOEFL and some of our students just wish to master an international language. Whatever the goals, OT is here to accompany them until they have accomplished their objectives.
Requirements to participate in our programs have been established with the goal of maximizing the limited resources with which we operate. In order to serve best those who need it the most, OT prioritizes giving lessons to students with clear goals such as passing an English exam or applying for university or a new job (those are only examples, many more goals are valued).
All students must be at least 18 years old. We recognize that younger populations may be more at risk of finding themselves without education or employment opportunities. As such, OT prioritizes students under 30 years old. Opportutoring recognizes that every story is different and therefore those requirements are not necessarily disqualifying factors. Our students have sometimes been over 30 years old. We encourage any interested student to reach out and apply. However, priority will be given to students who fit the criteria above.
